The British Flowers Week is an annual nationwide celebration of British cut flowers, their growers, and the skilled florists that they supply. It is returning for its tenth year. This year’s annual British flowers week celebration runs from Sunday 12th June to Sunday 19th June. The week-long celebration is championed by New Covenant Garden Market, the UK’s premier wholesale Flower Market.
The event has to be hosted in a grade 2 listed building. In the past years, the British Flowers Week has enjoyed support from the Garden Museum, the Royal Opera House, Kew Gardens, BBC Gardeners’ World, and The National Gallery. Last year saw The Duchess of Cornwall, alongside the royal florist Shane Connelly, get involved by creating a beautiful bouquet around the theme ‘Healing’ in her window using garden flowers grown at her home in Birkhall, Scotland. The floral design featured forget-me-nots, cranesbill, Alchemilla, tulips, peonies, poppies, cow parsley, and Solomon’s Seal.
Why is the British Flowers Week Celebrated?
The British Flowers Week is a celebration of the wealth, beauty, and variety of British-grown flowers and foliage. The growers, wholesalers, and florists who make it all possible are also recognized. the celebration aims to showcase great British flowers through British floristry, raise awareness of what British flowers are in season, and encourage the public to buy more British flowers.
The campaign unites the British cut flower industry and calls for customers to buy and value seasonal locally-grown British flowers. During this time, growers, wholesalers, and florists come together to showcase the best British flowers and floristry skills.
British Flowers Week 2022
To celebrate the British Flowers Week 2022, there will be floral displays transforming the Garden Museum that has hosted the exhibition since2018. The immersive floral wonderland-filled displays will wow visitors at this year’s British Flowers Week exhibition. This museum’s historic grade display has the theme of The Future, with a focus on sustainability and an environmentally-friendly approach.
At this year’s Garden Museum’s annual event, there will be five top British florists Frida Kim, Harriet Parry, Kate Wren Flowers, McQueen’s Flowers, and Wagner Kreusch. We expect that the museum will be filled with the scents from their sculptural installations of seasonal, sustainably sourced, British-grown flowers, and arranged using environmentally-friendly materials and methods.
British Flowers Week Activities
The British Week Flower festivities take place across the nation celebrating all the very best when it comes to the flower industry in the UK. The initiative keeps growing year on year with 2022 promising to be the most exciting yet. So many people are confused as to how they can participate and support the local flower industry. Here are five ways that people can get involved:
Buy some British blooms
June is a fabulous week for seasonal British flowers. During this week, you’ll see some of the most irresistible blooms in every corner of the city including peonies, sunflowers, lavender, hydrangeas, sweet peas, and so many more.
Buy yourself a gorgeous bunch of freshly picked flowers in unique floral designs. You could also have the flowers delivered to your mom, spouse, friend, or colleague.
Decorate your window
Use the flowers you purchase or those you’ve picked from your garden to decorate your window. Most local businesses and homeowners do this to share the joy of flowers and show their support for the industry.
Create spectacular displays that show off your artistic skills. For example, you could create summer-inspired wreaths. Alternatively, use stylish and unique flower containers to hold the flowers e.g. milk jars or colorful mugs.
Attend the exhibition at the Garden Museum
The Garden Museum is in the heart of London making it easy for the public to attend the exhibition. This is not an event to be missed as the UK’s five top florists will be creating flower installations and sculptures that will transform the venue into a flower wonderland using scented blooms bursting with color.
Hashtag the designs
Visiting the spectacular site and taking pictures is not enough. To show your support, post the pictures on your social media pages and add tags to help make the campaign go viral.
Tickets get sold out very fast. Book yours in advance online so as not to miss the most instagrammable flower spot in the UK at this time of the year.
Explore the local flower gardens to do a bit of spotting
Walk around and explore the fabulous local gardens that are full of gorgeous local blooms. Lucky for the locals, London has plenty of parks where they can wander and take in the floral beauty. This is a simple way for you to enjoy all the beauty of the flowers and not spend lots of money.
